2011 Pyramid Awards of Excellence Luncheon
with Lifetime Achievement Awards Presented to David Graves, recently retired President of Brooklawn Family & Children Services, and Christine Johnson, President & CEO of the Leadership Louisville Center
The Pyramid Awards Luncheon, taking place from 12:30 - 2:00 p.m., is the largest gathering of nonprofit professionals, philanthropists, and corporate citizens in the state.
The luncheon's focus is to recognize and celebrate the essential value of our region's nonprofit sector. CNPE also specifically recognizes commanding contributions made by nonprofit organizations in seven areas: Collaboration, Diversity, Governance, Leadership, Social Innovation, Vision and Lifetime Achievement.
The nonprofit community is dedicated to the continued growth and improvement of our city and state. The CNPE Annual Nonprofit Conference and Awards Luncheon is a place to celebrate that dedication and get geared-up for the year to come. In many ways, it is the starting point for the hard work that must be completed on behalf of our community. It is also the place where the nonprofit community comes together to collaborate, grow and create new and lasting partnerships.
Dawne Gee will be our mistress of ceremonies and Mayor Greg Fischer will share his administration’s goals for Louisville to become known for its unparalleled level of compassion, entrepreneurship, job development and lifelong learning. Many of Mayor Fischer’s administration’s goals are very much part of the nonprofit sector’s work and directly relate to Breaking Boundaries for Breakthrough Results.
Lifetime Achievement Award Winners
David Graves, recently retired President of Brooklawn Child & Family Services
Since his graduation from the University of Louisville Kent School in 1972, David Graves has been a tireless advocate for children at the local, state and national level. Early in his career, he was instrumental in the passage of legislation mandating special education services. In 1976, he developed the Citizen Advocacy Program for the Council for Retarded Citizens. Under his leadership the Home of the Innocent grew from a struggling organization in 1979 to one of the leading child serving agencies in the Kentucky.
In 1991, David led the reopening of Brooklawn as Kentucky’s first Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility (PRTF). Brooklawn has since grown to become one of the largest residential treatment programs in the state, with beautiful facilities and an award winning school.
Christine Johnson, President & CEO of the Leadership Louisville Center
Christine Johnson has led the Leadership Louisville Center to ever-higher levels of success during her 21-year tenure as President & CEO. A Business First editorial in 2009 stated: “Leadership Louisville is considered one of the best leadership-development and civic-engagement organizations in the country. Under the skilled direction of president Chris Johnson, the organization is known for recreating itself to better fulfill its mission.”
Earlier this summer, Leadership Louisville was recognized as one of the top seven community leadership programs in the US by the venerable Center for Creative Leadership. Chris sums up her role “as a civic entrepreneur, always looking for the next exciting idea to make Louisville a better community.” That she has, earning her the CNPE Lifetime Achievement Award.
David and Christine, along with the recipients of the Pyramid Awards for Excellence, will be honored at the luncheon.
