JOB TITLE: ASSISTANT CONTROLLER
DEPARTMENT: ACCOUNTING
REPORTS TO: CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER

Qualifications

Minimum four year Degree in Accounting, Business Administration or Finance. Prefer individual with at least 2 years experience handling general ledger detail and preparing monthly and annual financial reports. Prefer individual with experience working with MAS 90 general ledger software. Must have individual skilled in Excel spreadsheet application and data base management.

Position Summary:

The Assistant Controller position reports to the Chief Operating Officer.
Duties:

  • Responsible for the daily accounting for all general ledger activities, including deposits, disbursements, tracking revenue, accounts receivable, and month end processing
  • Handle preparation of reports for the Chief Operating Officer as needed for the Finance Committee, Board of Directors
  • Work closely with the Chief Operating Officer at the fiscal year end in preparation for the independent audit of the financial.
  • Protects agency resources by reviewing for compliance with agency internal controls and develops methods to strengthen these controls when necessary.
  • Assists in forming budgets by establishing schedules; collecting, analyzing, and consolidating financial data; and, preparing monthly comparisons of actual performance versus budget.
  • Analyzes success of meeting budget objectives by scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions
  • Provides status of financial condition by collecting, interpreting, and reporting financial data
    Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements for filing financial reports
  • Ensures operation of equipment by establishing preventive maintenance requirements and service contracts; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques
  • Manages accounting clerical staff in the execution of their daily duties ensuring this staff is given clear direction regarding the priority for completion of duties and has been sufficiently trained.
  • Maintains accounting clerical staff job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge needed for successful execution of job duties.
    Protects operations by keeping financial information and plans confidential.
  • Contributes to team effort by providing timely and accurate financial results for all departments to review and analyze.
