ELCM Calls for Donations for Challenge Grants

East Louisville Community Ministries (ELCM) – which serves Phoenix Hill, Butchertown, Smoketown, and Shelby Park and provides services for low-income residents – is reaching out to Louisvillians both inside and outside these neighborhoods for assistance. ELCM currently has two wonderful opportunities to match donations through grant challenges.

The first challenge comes from the Association of Community Ministries (ACM), which has challenged ELCM to raise $7,000 towards matching funds to help low-income households residing in East Downtown Louisville Metro neighborhoods. ACM itself has been challenged to raise $112,500 for a matching grant from LG&E in the amount of $225,000. Each local ministry is responsible for raising $7,000 by May 30th, for which they will receive a total of $14,000 in matching funds.

The second challenge comes from Kosair Charities. They will match $1,500 in funds raised by ELCM for its back-to-school program. This program provides school supplies and clothing, including winter clothes, for youth in ELCM’s service area. Donations must be received by the end of September, although donations received this summer can provide students with the school supplies they will need at the beginning of the school year.

ELCM would like to challenge the community to recognize the extreme need in this area, in which 45.2% of residents live in poverty. The strain on local organizations necessitates that Louisvillians outside this impoverished area donate and encourage others to give as well. Help ELCM raise funds for their challenges by sending contributions of any size to:
