Operation: PARENT is a non-profit organization dedicated to parents (and caregivers) of teens and pre-teens without regard to race, religion or ethnic origin.  Their mission is to educate, equip, encourage and engage parents of teenagers by providing up-to-date information and resources, state-of-the-art training and networking opportunities.  They offer a unique "parent-driven" model for parent education that is being duplicated in schools, churches, businesses and communities.  Their model includes various life lines for parents, including a "Parent Handbook," classes, speaker events, a resource room, parent events and a website.  For more information, call (502) 245-7154 or visit www.operationparent.org

Why did Schumm create Operation: PARENT?

“Five years ago I was struggling as the mother of teenagers. For the first time in my life I felt incompetent and unsure of myself as a parent. I eventually realized I could either continue to be a naive and socially uninformed parent, or make an effort to understand today's teen culture and become proactive. I also learned that I was not the only parent who felt insecure when it came to raising teenagers. I started Operation: PARENT out of a passion to reach and connect parents of teens and I was quickly supported by the Oldham County Board of Education, school personnel, community organizations, parents and grandparents.  Operation: PARENT has been an incredible blessing to me because I no longer feel insecure or alone standing up to today's culture. I believe awareness and education will make the difference for all of us. I want to help parents restore their confidence, connect with other parents and create momentum that will change the culture for generations to come!”
