Kentucky Waterways Alliance: Water Resources Program Director

This position is full-time with benefits, including paid vacation, holidays, sick leave and retirement matching funds. Salary is competitive for environmental non-profits in Kentucky and commensurate with experience. Salary commensurate with experience, expected salary range is $37,000 – 42,000.

Kentucky Waterways Alliance (KWA) is a non-profit organization devoted to the protection and restoration of Kentucky’s waterways and their watersheds. The Water Resources Program Director manages the Alliance’s permit review and compliance program and works with the Executive Director on water policy issues and review. The successful candidate would spend a significant portion of their time reviewing water 401/404 permits and documenting mitigation performed.

This is a senior-level position. It requires:

  1. Strong commitment to river conservation and watershed protection.
  2. Prior experience in nonprofit organizations, particularly those dealing with environmental or water issues.
  3. Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for travel across the state to inspect and investigation wetland mitigation required under the law.
  4. Willingness and availability to travel, with occasional weekend travel. The successful applicant will work with their counterparts in other states as a part of the Mississippi River Collaborative. Travel to Collaborative meetings and training sessions is a must.
  5. Strong writing and verbal communication skills.
  6. Excellent interpersonal skills, including willingness and ability to work effectively as part of a team as well as ability to self-motivate and work independently.
  7. Computer skills and knowledge. Basic GIS skills are desirable.
  8. 4-year college degree required, in science, engineering or public policy.

KWA staff receives reimbursement for the use of their personal vehicles for KWA authorized travel at the rate established by the KY Finance Cabinet.
