Clifton Center Hosts Marta Miranda for "The Clifton Fifty" rss feed

The Clifton Center, located at 2117 Payne Street, will welcome educator, entrepreneur, and President/CEO of the Center for Women and Families, Marta Miranda for "The Clifton Fifty" on Thursday, January 12th at 6:00pm. The evening will begin at 5:00pm with appetizers from Frankfort Avenue restaurants and a cash bar, followed by a 50-minute conversation led by Miranda titled "Who Ate My Cheese? Challenges and Opportunities for Collaborative Partnerships." She will provide insight into how organizations can move collaborations from polite and superficial to meaningful and purposeful. Ms. Miranda has 30 years of experience in social work, with much of that time spent focused on the effects, treatment, eradication and prevention of sexual assault and intimate partner abuse. Ms. Miranda has regularly collaborated with the Kentucky Domestic Violence Association and was appointed to the Kentucky Commission on Women by Governor Steve Beshear. The National Health Law Practice, which evaluates programs for underserved populations across the country, selected Ms. Miranda to receive a National Best Practice Program Development Award for design and implementation of the EEO Language Access Section of the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Families. She was also awarded a 2009 Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAMy) Award from the Kentucky Association of Sexual Assault Programs for her long-term commitment and work to eradicate sexual assault.

Ms. Miranda emigrated with her family from Pinar del Rio, Cuba when she was 12. After they settled in New Jersey during her childhood, she lived and worked in Florida before moving to Kentucky 15 years ago. She proudly identifies herself as Cubalachian-Cuban by birth and Appalachian by the Grace of God. In addition to numerous published essays and journal articles, Ms. Miranda is an accomplished poet. She is also co-owner and operator of Oliva Bella, seller of artisan olive oils sustainably produced by family farms in Italy.
