The Louisville Independent Business Alliance (LIBA) is a non-profit 501(c)6 tax exempt organization established in 2007 to promote locally owned business in Louisville. We promote the “Buy Local First” and “keep Louisville weird” campaigns. Local, independent businesses (those that are owned at least 51% by Louisville-area residents who have the authority to make all business decisions) are critically important to both the economic strength of the city and to the character and quality of life that it reflects. Currently over 430 local businesses are members of LIBA.

Desired Background and Education:
• Thorough understanding of and commitment to promoting locally-owned independent businesses
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience
• Prior background in fundraising, event planning and sponsorship, non-profit management and/or business management with a locally owned and independent business
• Self-motivated and self-regulated
• Superior verbal and written communication skills, capable and confident speaking to large groups
• Knowledgeable in basic business skills
• Comfortable working with local media such as radio and newspaper
• Proficient computer skills including familiarity with social networking, Word, Excel & Power Point
• Adept in the field of promotions and marketing
• Excellent inter-personal skills, upbeat attitude, and the ability to represent LIBA in a professional manner with diverse constituencies

Event Duties:
• Primary manager of Buy Local First Festival taking place on Sunday, May 20, 2012
o Vendor recruitment
o Volunteer recruitment
o Logistics of event – layout, signage, scheduling, etc.
o Execution of sponsor agreements (sponsors recruited by Director)
o Auction/raffle and merchandise sales coordination
o Buy local first education
o Event promotion and marketing
• Schedule and promote monthly LIBA networking meetings and presentations
• Assist Director with other events, including Holiday Passport Contest, Brewfest, etc.

Administrative Duties:
• Prepare agenda, attend and publish notes for LIBA board meetings
• Work with the Director to publish monthly newsletters to business members, volunteers and the general public
• Assist the Directors with membership recruitment effort and send new member packets
• Oversee membership renewal process (notifications, follow up, analyze retention rates)
• Handle requests for booth staffing at events, delivery/set up of materials, volunteer recruitment and thank yous
• Manage and expand merchandise program (t-shirts, stickers, etc.)
• May also assist with light bookkeeping
• May also assist with marketing projects (social media, semi-annual directory, printed marketing pieces, etc.)

This position reports to the Director.

Anticipated hours will be 20 per week ($15/hour). This position is part time but flexible hours are required. The candidate will need to be available some nights and weekends. In addition, some work days will be longer than others and some weeks will be busier than a typical part time job. Conversely, some work weeks will be shorter than normal.
