        Organizational Mission:    
   
        It is the mission of The Council to initiate
        positive change on behalf of 
        individuals with developmental disabilities.

General Areas of Responsibilities:   Areas of responsibility include the following:

·Human Resources:  The Executive Director is responsible for hiring, supervising, evaluating, and when necessary terminating employees.  This responsibility may be delegated to another program director; however, the executive director is ultimately responsible for all staff.

·Planning:  The executive director evaluates the services being provided by the Council in relation to specific goals and standards, and recommends modifications, where appropriate.  The executive director may recommend new programs to the board for consideration.

·Finance:  The executive director is responsible for the preparation of the annual budget and is accountable for control of these resources once approved by the board. The executive director is responsible for the oversight of all financial matters related to operations.

·Public Relations:  The executive director interprets the function of the Council to the community by assisting the board, through direct involvement and through public relations programs, including personal contact, descriptive program literature, and the media.

· Interagency Relations:  The executive director (1) maintains appropriate relations with other professionals and service groups in the community, (2) maintains appropriate relations with federal, state, and local government units, (3) maintains appropriate relationships with other disability groups and funding sources.

· Organizational Operations:  The executive director (1) recommends policies to the board and/or assists the board in the formulation of policies for the effective operation of the Council and its programs, (2) ensures implementation of the policies adopted by the board, (3) has chief administrative responsibility for maintenance of agency facility, and (4) carries primary staff responsibility to ensure that legal obligations of the Council are met.

Minimum Qualifications   A candidate must have a passion for working with and advocating for persons with developmental disabilities and their families.  Bachelor’s degree in public/business administration, nonprofit management, health, social work or a related field is required, with a Master’s Degree preferred.  At least three years of relevant experience in the field of disabilities and/or nonprofit organization, preferably in a leadership role, is required.  

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

     · Significant personal and/or professional experience in the field of developmental disabilities.

     ·  Experience and knowledge of working in the nonprofit sector

     · Experience working with boards and volunteers

     ·  Skill in program planning, development, budgeting and management

     ·  Skill in grant development and administration.

     ·   Knowledge of the principles and practices of working with culturally diverse groups

     ·  Awareness of federal, state, and local funding sources

     ·  Ability to cultivate, solicit and close major gifts (over $10,000) from private sources.

     ·  Basic skills in information technology and commonly used software applications.

     · Communicate effectively verbally and in writing, with skills in public speaking.

     ·  Ability to represent The Council and its mission to the public and broad community at large

     · Knowledge and experience in governmental affairs and legislative advocacy.

     ·  Maintain the highest level of personal, professional, and ethical standards and assure that the organization operates according to high ethical and professional standards.

     ·  Ability to be fair but firm, and exude leadership with key constituencies.
