Fundraising during a crisis: Advice from the Lilly School of Philanthropy
Fundraising right now is fraught. Everyone is navigating in a new space. So is it time to lay back on fundraising – or lean in? Thanks to our supporters, we are excited that we can offer free expert advice from our good friends at the Lilly School of Philanthropy next Thursday afternoon. (We normally charge tuition for the day-long courses the Lilly faculty teach for us.)
Come hear from Bill Stanczykiewicz, a core faculty member of IUPUI’s* Lilly School of Philanthropy as well as its director of communications and fundraising. Bill’s real-life experience includes leading a state-wide nonprofit for 17 years. He will address how you can handle fundraising optimally during the coronavirus outbreak.
This webinar, Fundraising in the Age of Coronavirus – How Nonprofits Can Navigate Turbulent Times will convene at 2:00 PM on Thursday, April 23. In it, Bill will cover fundraising strategy, tips, and advice on how to:
make up for revenue lost due to cancellations (canceling events, selling tickets, etc.);
empower and encourage your donors when they are afraid, too; and
keep fear and anxiety from overwhelming your organization’s future.
*“IUPUI” is the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.
And a free webinar this week …
This Thursday, April 16, at 9:00 AM, we have an important webinar on finances: “Evaluating Your Nonprofit’s Financial Position in the Wake of COVID-19” from Jeff McCaffrey, CPA, and Christine Koenig, CPA, both DMLO partners. Your 2020 financial plans have probably been upended. This webinar will guide you through a timely review of your financial plan and will show you how to adapt your budget to the ongoing crisis. Jeff and Christine will help you determine your immediate available cash reserves, evaluate changes in revenues and expenses, revise your budget, and reach out to donors and grantors. You can register here.
Thanks to our volunteer presenters and sponsors who make these free webinars possible.

CNPE Self-Care Tip of the Day: Evidence suggests that positive thinking can actually change your brain chemistry and make you feel better. So, for the next 10 days, watch one TED Talk from this list to shift yourself into a life of positive thinking. Topic titles include “Less stuff, more happiness,” “Where joy hides and how to find it,” “How I made friends with reality,” and “What makes a good life?”
[Editor’s note: Yesterday’s Tip of the Day omitted the link to a 10-minute video on exercises to fix “forward head posture.” Here it is. We regret the omission. And, yes, your posture needs help.]
Hang in there. CNPE has your back. We want to help you optimize your fundraising during this unparalleled time.
