CNPE eNews: Juneteenth celebration | New PPP forms | Sign up for Give for Good now (June 19, 2020)

Today, we celebrate Juneteenth with our entire community. It commemorates June 19, 1865, when slavery was finally abolished in Texas – over 30 months after Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation freed slaves in the rest of the Confederacy. The Juneteenth flag appears above.

New Paycheck Protection Program forms to document loan forgiveness
On June 17, the SBA published two new forms for borrowers to use to establish how much (if not all) of their PPP loan should be forgiven. The “long” form is the default, but it reflects the relaxed percentage and timing standards under the PPP Flexibility Act of 2020 (summary here). A new, shorter “FA$TRAK” form is for (among others) borrowers who did not cut pay for their employees by more than 25% and did not reduce their head count or workers’ hours. See our SBA PPP Loan resource page for other PPP resources. And sign up for our next PPP webinar; details below.

Webinars to up your nonprofit game
We have three webinars this month to help you in diverse aspects of running your nonprofit.

  • Budgeting and Spending: A Level 2 Certification Class, will convene as a webinar on Wednesday, June 24, from 10:00 AM to noon. Join Joseph Cecil of the Community Financial Empowerment Certification Program as he goes over strategies for creating budgets for nonprofits and how to track and analyze spending. Register here.
  • Our Summer Grants Refresher is a virtual session on Thursday, June 25, from 9:00 to 10:30 AM for nonprofit pros new to CNPE’s grant-writing courses. We will review grant basics, help get your organizations grant-ready, create need statements, and develop project descriptions. During the session, we will apply grant-writing skills to the challenges nonprofits face during the COVID-19 crisis. Register ($35 for members; $55 nonmembers).
  • PPP guidance: In recent weeks, we’ve seen new regulatory guidance from the U.S. Treasury on PPP loans, both existing and future ones. And we have a new PPP Flexibility Act that relaxes some of the initial restrictions on borrowers. To help you recalibrate how you will navigate this evolving landscape, we are bringing back two of our popular expert CPAs, Becky Phillips and Theresa Batliner, both of MCM CPAs & Advisors. Join them on Tuesday, June 30, from 9:00 to 10:15 AM for our third PPP webinar, Plotting Your PPP Path from Here. They will explain the new statute and the new regulations and how they affect those who received PPP funds. They will, of course, answer your questions, too. Sign up here.

Let’s celebrate freedom wherever it has been won.
