Job Description

The Kentucky Waterways Alliance (KWA) and Kentucky Association for Environmental Education (KAEE) seek an enthusiastic individual with a passion for the missions of our organizations. This Americorps position will be based in Louisville at KWA and is a unique opportunity to be part of a new partnership between KWA and KAEE to advance water education and water literacy throughout Kentucky. Compensation and Benefits: This is a 1,700-hour position beginning on September 1, 2020, and serving through August 31, 2021. Member will receive a year’s total living stipend of $13,992 divided up and provided biweekly. While the hours worked per week are flexible, members are expected to work an average of 35 hours each week. In addition, the member will have the opportunity to receive certification as a Professional Certified Environmental Educator through Kentucky’s state agency for environmental education.  Additional benefits include healthcare, travel reimbursements, access to the Mental Health Member Assistance program, child care assistance (if eligible), access to the Employers of National Service database, and a tuition stipend (provided to AmeriCorps service members). In order to receive the tuition stipend, members must fulfill their service hour requirement by August 31, 2021.

Job Requirements:

Member Responsibilities: 

  • Build capacity to advance KWA's mission to protect, restore, and celebrate Kentucky's waterways by developing and facilitating curriculum-based environmental education programs, both in the classroom and field, for K-12 classrooms across Kentucky. Programs will focus on Project WET (Water Education Today) water literacy principles. 
  • Help market KWA programs and identify and build relationships with potential partners to provide programming.
  • Host educator workshops around the state in KAEE's Project WET and other curriculum programs.
  • Assist KAEE facilitators in the transition to online learning through the development of virtual workshop designs.
