Job Description

Position Summary

The Staff Accountant plays a vital role in the day-to-day operations of Kosair Charities. The Staff Accountant is responsible for performing general ledger and bank account reconciliation, preparing journal entries, maintaining fixed asset system and expenditure reporting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Perform various complex account analyses and reconciliations
  • Responsible for entering daily deposit from mail received on Campus
  • Reconciles the general operating accounts; reviews invoices for proper approvals, amounts, and expense classification and project codes
  • Maintains records retention log to facilitate the orderly file system of permanent records for adherence to record retention policy
  • Maintains fixed asset system, which includes preparation of journal entries, reconciliation of general ledger to fixed assets system, and preparation of depreciation schedules for budgeting purposes
  • Assist with the month-end closing process conducting research and making correction journal entries for account discrepancies, prepares closing journal entries, and prepares accrual entries
  • Demonstrates effective communication and problem-solving skills
  • Utilizes accounting system, Financial Edge and Raiser’s Edge and spreadsheet software
  • Coordinates and maintains grant billings and reports; verifies all billings are complete and reconciled to the general ledger; and compiles complex grant expense reports
  • Continual monitoring and assessment of Financial Edge to ensure proper use of vendors, general ledger accounts, bank accounts and project codes
  • Prepare monthly reconciliation of investment accounts
  • Assists with annual audit
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Salary Range: $35,000 - $50,000

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • BS/BA or equivalent combination of education and/or experience required
  • Minimum 2+ years of experience in accounting or related field
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and applications, specifically Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Considerable knowledge of basic accounting principles and practices
  • Skill in operating and inputting data into financial accounting software with accuracy and efficiency
  • Ability to perform simple to moderately complex operations in financial accounting and in the use of spreadsheets
  • Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision; strong work ethic
  • Ability and willingness to learn new software applications
  • Must be detail oriented, accurate, efficient and well organized
  • Willingness to learn
